Summer is here. Let’s get outdoors.

Tue, 2011-07-26

There are plenty of events to keep you entertained outdoors this summer. We are lucky to have a beautiful green oasis surrounding Exeter House; Freeway Park which provides lush, tree lined paths, colorful flower beds, sculptures and waterfalls. This is truly a unique jewel in the heart of the city. Here are just a few of the activities in Freeway Park:

“Dancing ‘til Dusk”Exeter House residents join Freeway Park's Dancing 'til Dusk

6 Glorious Nights of Dancing Outdoors in the Park! If you joined us in previous years, you know what a wonderful experience this is for participants as well as audience members. And it’s just steps away from our front door. Each night features a different style of live music and dancing. Due to this event’s popularity, the dance floor has been expanded. Bring your friends and dance the night away. No experience is needed. A free one-hour dance lessonand starts at 7, and the dancing continues until 9 p.m.

Dancing ’til Dusk is sponsored by Freeway Park Association, Exeter House, and other local businesses and organizations. The events are coordinated by Dance for Joy.

Annual Freeway Park Summer Book Sale

The park is a great place to find a good book and support the Seattle Public Library. You can browse a wide assortment of books at the Book Cart in the plaza at Freeway Park. Exeter House residents will be volunteering their time at the Book Cart every Thursday, from noon to 2 p.m.

The Summer Book Sale was created by the Freeway Park Association, in cooperation with Seattle Parks & Recreation and Friends of the Library, which provides the books and receives the proceeds. Seattle Parks & Recreation provides the carts and the concierge. If you’re in the neighborhood any Thursday this summer, stop by to say hello and check out the books. You might find your perfect summer novel. The price is certainly right; all books are just $1.

Seattle Tilth

Seattle Tilth inspires and educates people to garden organically, conserve natural resources, and support local food systems in order to cultivate a healthy urban environment and community.
